FLU VACCINATIONS - We will be shortly booking flu vaccinations.

The best time of the year to get a flu vaccination is in the autumn. Even if you’ve had a flu jab in previous years you need another one this year. This is because the viruses that cause flu are always changing. The seasonal flu vaccine is offered free to people who are at risk, to protect them from catching flu and developing serious complications.

It is recommended that you have a flu jab if you:

  • are 65 years old or over
  • are pregnant
  • have a serious medical condition:
    • chronic (long-term) respiratory disease, such as severe asthma, COPD or bronchitis
    • chronic heart disease
    • chronic kidney disease
    • chronic liver disease
    • chronic neurological disease, such as a stroke
    • diabetes
    • a weakened immune system due to conditions such as HIV, or treatments that suppress the immune system such as chemotherapy
    • have a BMI of 40+
  • are living in a long-stay residential care home
  • are the main carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if you fall ill

We now have an on line forum where you can leave comments, feedback or discuss any topic about the Surgery. It is free to join and enables you to discuss issues with other patients.

We are now offering the Electronic Prescription Service.

This service gives you the option to 'nominate' the pharmacy where you get your repeat medication from. You request your repeat in the usual way and the pharmacy will receive your prescription direct from us electronically. This will save you a trip to the Surgery to collect your prescription form. You can nominate a pharmacy close to your home or where you work.

You can 'nominate' your pharmacy by phoning us or by fillling out a form at Reception.

If all of our ‘on the day’ urgent appointments are fully booked, our reception team may offer you an appointment at the new MIAMI clinic.

The MIAMI (Minor Injury Assessment & Minor Illnesses) clinic is a new service being launched by 19 local GP practices across Adur and Worthing.

At the MIAMI clinic you will be seen by a GP, nurse, or paramedic practitioner, who – with your consent – will have access to your medical record.

The clinics will be available weekdays from 8am to 8pm for urgent appointments, for ‘one-off’ health issues or problems (not for long-term condition support and management).

There will also be pre-bookable appointments for family planning, sexual health, smears and chronic disease management at the weekend from 10am to 2pm.

You will only be able to access these appointments via our Practice, so please call us first.

We hope that the MIAMI clinics will help to improve access to doctors and nurses for our patients, and reduce waiting times.

PATIENT PARTICIPATION REPORT FOR 2015:  During the past year we have worked with the Patient Participation Group at this Practice to ensure we are listening to our patients.

Victoria Road Surgery and all practices have received a communication from
the HSCIC (Health and Social Care Information Centre) about the publication
of fit note data.
The extraction is intended to allow the DWP (Department of Work and Pensions) to collect data on fit note usage in order to inform policy development and evaluate the Fit for Work service. This data will be fully anonymised

PLANS 2014-2015

Patient Data has now been uploaded to the Summary Care Record unless patients have specifically opted out of these scheme. Patients records are collected electronically via the GP2GP electronic system wherever possible when a patient registers with the Practice. Patients can already request prescriptions on line and make appointments on line, however, we will also be enabling in the future on line access to part of your medical record if you would like to view this. In the meantime, should you wish to view your medical record then this request needs to be put in writing to the practice manager and please note there will be a charge made for this. Feedback about the practice will also be available shortly on line but currently available on NHS choices or by email to the practice manager or forms available in reception at the practice.
